The Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria, Olesya Ilaşchuk, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, Velislava Petrova-Chamedva, in connection with the fall of a drone on the country’s territory.

This is stated in the post of the Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria on Facebook following the meeting on August 10, Ukrinform reports.

“During the meeting, the Ambassador of Ukraine assured that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not direct unmanned aerial vehicles to Bulgaria, nor in the direction of any other partner country, and that the Ukrainian side is fully open to cooperation in conducting the investigation,” the embassy informed.

Ilaşchuk also emphasized that Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine creates increasing security risks for neighboring states. She stressed the importance of ending the war as soon as possible to ensure security in the region and expressed hope for increased international efforts to achieve peace.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue close coordination in establishing the causes of the incident.

As Ukrinform reported, the Ambassador of Ukraine was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria due to a violation of the republic’s airspace by an unmanned aerial vehicle.

On the morning of Saturday, August 8, a drone entered Bulgarian airspace from Romania and exploded about 100 meters from the border.

The Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria stated that it was most likely a “Maya” decoy drone, widely used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Later, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Georgiy Tikhij, informed that Ukraine is clarifying the circumstances of the drone incident with the Bulgarian side and is fully open to interaction.
